In 1977, Independence Recycling, Inc. began its crushing operation with a stationary jaw crusher at an existing dump site in Garfield Heights, Ohio. In its first year of operation, Independence crushed a total of 50,000 tons of material. In the early 1980s, Independence grew geographically outside the Northeast Ohio region to other markets. Independence Recycling’s first job in a new market was Rickenbacker Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio.
Acquired by Arcosa, Inc. in 2023, Independence is now rebranding to Arcosa Crushed Concrete. Arcosa continues to operate six recycling yards in Florida.
